How to choose a keyboard — full guide

Mechanical or membrane, layout (full/TKL/60%), wireless and lighting — how to choose right.

Mechanical vs. membrane

Mechanical keyboards have a physical switch under each key: precise, durable (tens of millions of presses) actuation with a clear feel — favored for gaming and heavy typing. Membrane ones are quieter, lighter and more affordable, great for the office. Choose based on how much you type and the feel you like.

Layout: full-size, TKL or 60%

Full-size (with numpad) is ideal for accounting and number work. TKL (no numpad) frees up space for the mouse. 60% (compact) is minimalist and portable — navigation and F1–F12 keys are accessed via FN combos. Choose based on desk space and how often you use the numpad.

Wireless, lighting, battery

A good wireless keyboard connects via 2.4G and Bluetooth (handy for multiple devices) and charges over USB-C. RGB lighting looks great and helps in the dark — with adjustable effects and brightness. Also check anti-ghosting if you press many keys at once, especially for gaming.
